Client: Heriot Watt UNiversity
Project Value £100,000
Project Timescale: 5 weeks
Architect: Heriot Watt University
Quantity Surveyor: CQS Consult
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The refurbishment of the existing ground, first and second floor works spaces of the Lyell Building. This will include new flooring, partitions, doors, acoustic panels and lighting. New desks, storage, work pods, planting, AV equipment and IT equipment were provided by others.
The works comprised the installation of a new distribution board within the George Bruce Building to feed the new OGS Telescope base. New floor screed over the whole warehouse floor and the installation of new heavy duty storage racking.
KEY CHALLENGES
The works were carried out in a live working environment where ongoing critical works were being undertaken in adjacent parts of the building. The continuity of services and maintaining of a dust free environment at all times was critical.
All works had to be planned and co-ordinated with other users and HWU Estates and Maintenance staff to ensure there were disruptions to the services and controlled integration of new services into the existing systems was carefully controlled.
All works were delivered on time.
ADDED VALUE
Worked closely with the Design Team and client to keep works within budget. Working closely with the end users to ensure minimal disruption to ensure continuity. Our experience in working in live environments ensured that no issues were caused.
Due to the materials being stored within the warehouse which were unable to be removed as originally planned, we worked closely with the University and provided plant and labour free of charge to assist with the moving of these materials to ensure we maintained the programme and competed the works on time.
